If Norton 360 fails to install, we
recommend that you save the Norton 360(Date/Time).log file that is
generated during the installation of Norton 360. This file can help the
Symantec Support Team to resolve your issue faster. After you uninstall Norton
360, you should find two Norton 360(Date/Time).log files. The
installation log file should have an earlier date and time, and a smaller KB
size. The un-installation log should have a later date and time, and a larger
KB size.
To locate a log file
1.
On the Windows taskbar, click Start
> Run
2.
In the Run dialog box, do one of the
following:

In Windows Vista/Win7, type the
following command:
%allusersprofile%\nortoninstaller\logs
·
In Windows XP, type the following
command:
%allusersprofile%\application data\nortoninstaller\logs
The Windows
temporary folder opens in Windows Explorer.
3.
Find a file with the name Norton 360
(Date/Time).log, where (Date/Time) is the date and time that you
installed or uninstalled Norton 360.
The Norton Add-On Pack works with
Norton 360 to provide additional security features. To install Norton Add-On
Pack, follow the steps below:
1.
In the Norton 360 Main window, at
the top, click the Tasks link.
2.
In the Tasks window, under General
Tasks, click the Set up Parental and Privacy Controls link.
3.
Your browser opens to the Parental
Controls for Norton Internet Security & Norton 360 page.
4. Scroll down to the
bottom of the webpage and click “here” to download the Norton Add-On Pack.
Supported
ports for Norton 360 email protection
Norton 360 supports email scanning
only on the default port of 110 (POP3) for incoming email. For outgoing email
scan, it is port 25 (SMTP). Currently, we do not provide email protection on
any other ports.
Digitally signing email messages in
Outlook Express 6.x and Office XP
Outlook Express 6.x lets you
digitally sign email messages to ensure that they are not modified during
transfer. Norton 360 email protection modifies the email messages during virus
repair. This process creates an Outlook alert, which tells you that the message
has been modified.
Restoring
network connectivity on Windows Vista 64-bit Edition
Norton 360 cannot automatically
restore network connectivity on Windows Vista 64-bit Edition if problems exist
on the network.
To restore network device connectivity
1.
On the Windows taskbar, click Start
> Control Panel.
If Control Panel is not already in Classic View mode, click the Classic View
link on the left.
2.
In the Control Panel window,
double-click the System icon.
3.
In the System Properties dialog box,
in the task list on the left, click the Device Manager link.
4.
If the User Account Control prompt
appears, click Continue.
5.
In the System Properties list, under
Network Adapters, for each item with a red X, right-click the item, and then
click Enable.
On systems on which the double-byte
character set is enabled, typed characters sometimes do not appear in the
Firewall General Settings and Firewall Program Rules editing windows.
The suggested remedy is to
temporarily change the default language.
Using
Norton 360 with directory symbolic links
The use of directory symbolic links
(also known as NTFS junctions) on Windows XP may result in increased hard drive
scanning times due to repeated scanning.
Norton
360 Backup - Supported media and compatibility
Norton 360 Backup estimates the
number of CDs or DVDs required for backups by using the following commonly
available capacities:
Backup calculations are based on a
700-MB CD and a 4.37-GB DVD. When you insert a disc that has a different
capacity, Norton 360 Backup recalculates the estimated number of discs that are
required.
To calculate how much local and
online backup storage is required, Symantec uses the following definitions:
Sonic DLA drives are not supported
by Norton 360 Backup. To prevent backup errors that occur when Norton 360 tries
to access Sonic DLA drives, you should disable these drives.
To disable Sonic DLA drives

Symantec
Support connection problems
If you cannot connect to the
Symantec Support Web site, the cause can be an external firewall that blocks
your Internet access to Symantec's Remote Assist. To access Remote Assist, port
653 must be open. Consult the documentation for your external firewall for
information on how to ensure that this port is open.
If you need to set your computer to
high contrast, Windows XP/Vista offers a number of ways to do so. For best
results when you view Norton product windows and Help content, you can set your
computer monitor to display in high contrast. To do so, open Accessibility
Options in Control Panel. The High Contrast option is found on the Display tab
in the Accessibility Options dialog box.
